In Spanish rapier, many core offensive and defensive techniques revolve around suppressing the opponent’s sword to ensure one’s own safety. This series of techniques is known as “Atajo." In Master Thibault’s book, there are also numerous techniques related to this, but Atajo is never mentioned from start to finish. It is speculated that this omission might be due to the context of the Thirty Years’ War, making it inconvenient to mention even though their martial arts system originated from Destreza.
This time, we have invited Coach Fang Tzu-Ping from the Vor&Nach Historical European Martial Arts Society to introduce Master Thibault’s techniques of suppressing the sword and counter. We hope everyone can experience the essence and joy of Spanish rapier fencing through this.
