Jojutsu means short staff fighting techniques in Japanese Koryu Budo(Japanese traditional martial arts). Jojutsu originated from the walking sticks used by contemporary monks and civilian. Apart from being trekking poles for mountainous terrain, they also served as self-defense weapons during emergencies. The fundamental leverage principles of Jojutsu can be widely applied to other weapons, as seen in numerous traditional Japanese martial arts. Furthermore, Jojutsu have evolved into modern Japanese Keijō-jutsu (police stick arts).
This time, we have invited Coach Andy Lin from the Yoseikan Budo Taiwan to introduce us to their systematic Jojutsu. After familiarity with Jo allows one to use them as alternative self-defense tools, using readily available items such as trekking poles, mops, brooms, and so on, to protect oneself during conflicts.
