Double and Afterblow are common occurrences in HEMA tournaments. For self-preservation, both the double and the afterblow means both competitors strike each other and could be handicapped or their lives could be taken anyway. While both fencers want to get scored, double and afterblow seem to be hard to avoided. However we believe the medieval masters who left treatises and historical accomplishment would definitely have their ways to dodge the inevitable.
We have invited Exiel Li, the head instructor of Vor&Nach Historical European Martial Arts Society, to deliver this workshop. Exiel is also the pioneer in organizing high-quality HEMA tournaments in Taiwan. In this workshop, he will provide a detailed explanation of the historical context and current state of double and afterblow in tournaments. Participants will not only learn about the context but also think about how to apply this concept in their own fight and become more skilled HEMA fencers.
