In Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA), longsword techniques are not limited to unarmoured combat (Blossfechten); there is also a rich tradition of armoured combat (Harnischfechten). Masters such as Johannes Liechtenauer , judicial duel specialist Hans Talhoffer, and later period master Paulus Hector Mair all left behind invaluable materials on armoured combat.
For this workshop, we are excited to invite Jay Noyes from the Castle Tintagel Knight School in Japan to teach the fundamentals of using the longsword and dagger in armoured combat.

Jay Noyes
Jay Noyes is skilled in a wide variety of Historical European Martial Arts weapon systems, with a particular expertise in armoured fighting. He founded the Knight School” Castle Tintagel” to teach historical martial arts in Tokyo since 2007. Starting in 2013, he also organized the Japanese team to join the Battle of the Nations, and they gain the gold medal in Belmonte, Spain at 2014.
Beside the historical martial arts, Jay Noyes also participates as a consultant for anime and video game design such as “Berserk (2011)”, “Dark Souls 2 (2013)” , “Maria the Virgin Witch (2015)”, and “From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman (2025)”. He can be considered an important promoter of HEMA within the ACG (Anime, Comic, Game) community.
